March 30, 2022

On January 29, 2022, the Malta Film Awards took place for the first time at the MCC in the Maltese capital of Valletta. Roland Greil was commissioned by the Malta Film Commission to light Florian Wieder’s production design in a first-class way; with the support of a Follow-Me 3D SIX system.

“I’ve used Follow-Me’s remote follow-spot system before and really appreciate its benefits,” explains Roland. “At the Malta Film Awards we managed all the key lighting for the awards ceremony and also set classic followers.”

A whopping 400 moving lights were integrated into the Follow-Me system. Follow-Me is a uniquely flexible remote follow-spot system because it is fixture independent with personality files supporting all brands of moving fixtures. Any moving light can be integrated into the system – and is then flexibly available both as a show light and as a follower. With the Follow-Me 3D SIX system, up to six actors can be tracked with an unlimited number of moving lights via a single system. Follow-Me 3D SIX also offers PSN to integrate with motion control.   Follow-Me SIX systems are extensible: designed to allow the addition of the Follow-Me auto tracking module with its range of capabilities and functionality.

“The main challenge at the Malta Film Awards was to create front and back lights from camera-compatible perspectives, with which the actors could be followed on stage. The use of the Follow-Me system was an invaluable help here.”

The lighting and video crew consisted of Michael Kühbandner (Associate Lighting Designer), Markus Neubauer (Lighting Programmer) and Leo Herrmann (Mediaserver Programmer). Follow-Me Tech was Bianca Mastroianni.
