Follow-Me Dutch theatre workshop

July 3, 2023

Last week Follow-Me welcomed a group of Dutch theatre designers, lighting specialists, rental company and an ETC Ion Xe console with a Robe LedBeam 150, to their HQ in Netherlands.

Mike Evers one of the 4 LDā€™s from Theatermachine, organised the group of likeminded people. The focus group was inspired by Theatermachine’s signature ā€œBundling expertise increases knowledge and makes it possible to achieve an optimal resultā€. The workshop was designed to discover and inspire the use of remote follow-spot and tracking systems in these type of traditional yet experimental theatre.Ā

Checking the merge between the Follow-Me System and the ETC Ion Xe console

Theatermachine and JG Theatertechniek supplied the ETC console and Robe LedBeam as these are both commonly used in their work. During the workshop, FMā€™s Gary Yates confirmed the importance of measuring 4 points on stage and then the speed of set up for Follow-Me with 4 point camera calibration.Ā  FMā€™S Victor Petitjean detailed how the fixture refinement wizard can accurately and quickly refine all fixtures including their Robe LedBeam.Ā  Mike and Victor set up the merge between the Follow-Me System and the ETC Ion Xe console over sACN. Mike noted how quick, easy and flawless this really was in practise. Ā

At the end of the day it was concluded that using a Follow-Me system can be a great tool to further aid their creativity, especially when working with a small lighting rig, often in smaller studio theatres.
