Follow-spot on the Dutch National Tattoo

October 16, 2023

The Dutch celebration of their military music took place earlier this month with the Stichting Nationale Taptoe (National Tattoo) in Rotterdam’s AHOY Arena.

Dutch Production & Design company Light Image were responsible for set, lighting & video content design and programming, commissioned by Technical Production company Unlimited Productions. They teamed up with Lighting Production Company APEXX who also provided the required Follow-Me 3D SIX System for follow-spot control.

Earlier in September, Follow-Me and APEXX ran a couple of workshops and trainings for the Stage & Events Technique final year students at the ROC College Hilversum. The students then went on to work as FM Operators for the National Tattoo. Sanne Voorbij sighted her experience as  “It was a fun experience to be able to follow-spot several people through this system during the show. I am grateful for this learning period and the opportunities provided by my training!”

Light Image LD Renzo Hagel explained their choice to use Follow-Me as the follow-spot system: “Follow-Me allowed us to integrate a large part of the lighting rig into the calibrated system. This results in ultimate creative freedom. Follow-Me targets can control different sets of fixtures per scene. Not only for traditional follow-spot usage, but also for theatrical gobo projections or fill lighting on a moving armed forces group.”
